Happy Opener 2024!

Happy Opener everybody!

First of all, we would like to thank you all for your business and support over the busy opening weekend! We appreciate you all! It was a busy weekend for us here at Gene's, and the weather was GORGEOUS!

The reports we heard over the opening weekend were very mixed, but the bite was fair to good for most fisherman. The flat calm water and sun made the shallow water bite a little more difficult. Water temps are increasing rapidly, and a wide variety of techniques are working for walleye. Majority of fisherman had luck with a 1/16th or 1/8th ounce jigs tipped with a minnow or soft plastic fished in or around the weeds in 5-10 feet of water. We also heard good reports of anglers having success in 10-16 feet using a lindy rig with leeches, minnows and nightcrawlers. This bite will continue to improve as the water temps continue to increase.

It may have been opening week, but the panfish bite has been great! Lilacs are blooming, so the crappie fishing is booming! Bluegill and Crappie are being caught in their normal shallow spawning grounds in 2-6 feet of water on most area lakes. Small jigs tipped with a minnow, wax worm, nightcrawlers or soft plastics either slowly retrieved or under a bobber are working best. This bite will remain great through the weekend!

We are excited walleye season is FINALLY open, and look forward to another busy week and weekend!
